…Delta Civil Society Community Restates Commitment To Democracy & Good Governance.

Dr. Martins Kedienhon, the President, Delta State Civil Society Community, a non-partisan group; which is an umbrella body of all Civil Society Orgaizations in Delta State, has said that the group is committed to promoting good governance and citizens political participation in Delta State as it announces neutrality, and non-endorsement of candidates for the 2023 general elections in Delta State and Nigeria in general; urges citizens to vote and exercise their civic rights come on Saturday, February 25, 2023; restates commitment to democracy and good governance.

Dr. Martins Kedienhon made this remark today being on Thursday, February 23, 2023 in a press statement made available to some group of Journalists in Asaba Delta State capital as he reacted to the media reports on purported endorsement of some candidates in the Delta State for the 2023 general elections in Delta State and Nigeria in general as group stated that, it will remain neutral and did not endorse any political party or candidate in the upcoming general elections.

According to Dr. Martins Kedienhon, Delta CSOs is an organization dedicated to promote democracy, good governance, and the rule of law. He added that, Delta State Civil Society Community believes on the civic space rules of maintaining its independence and impartiality in all matters relating to politics, especially at this critical time in our country where citizens needs the Civil Society to speak up for them.

The statement by The President of Delta State Civil Society Community, Dr. Martins Kedienhon reads in parts: “Our mandate is to provide a platform for citizens to engage constructively with parties candidates by so doing extract their social contract and hold them accountable for their actions.
As ambassadors of justice, equity and fairness, our focus will be on educating the public about the importance of participating in the electoral process, the need for transparency and accountability in governance”.

“Our focus will also be on promotion of peaceful and fair elections. We urge all political parties and their candidates to respect the rule of law, conduct themselves in a peaceful manner, and abide by electoral laws and regulations. We call on all citizens to exercise their Civic Right to vote in a peaceful and responsible manner and to reject any form of violence or intimidation during the election”.
