Prof Mercy Ada Anyiwe is a Professor of Economics, Statistics and Development Consultant; Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Benin, Benin-City Edo State &
DIRECTOR, CENTRE FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH (CEHDEER).
Mercy Ada Anyiwe had bagged B.Sc. M.Sc. Ph.D (Economics). She is a Professor of Economics, University of Benin; a visiting Professor, Igbinedion University. She has served as the Dean of the College of Social and Management Sciences, Western Delta University, (2008-2010); and the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Admiralty University of Nigeria, Ibusa, (2020/2021 Session) while on sabbatical leave.
Prof. (Mrs.) Mercy Ada Anyiwe hails from Mbiri, Ika North-East, Delta State and is blessed with three children: an architect, a computer Scientist and a lawyer.
PROFESSIONAL AND WORKING EXPERIENCE
Prof. Mercy Ada Anyiwe joined the University of Benin in 1993, before then, she had lectured at Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma between 1983 and 1993. She has had vast experience in the area of Human Resource Development and has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students for many years (41yrs) in her special areas which are Econometrics, Statistics, Health Economics and Economic Development.
She is well published in learned journals in Nigeria and abroad; and has contributed to knowledge immensely, having to her credit: 7 books such as: (a) Statistics Handbook for Social Scientists (b) Smart Kids Book: Short Stories and Verses (c) Basic Research Method for Social Scientists; More than 80 Journal Articles/Proceedings and other technical reports.
• Areas of Specialization: Quantitative Economics and Development Economics with emphases on Health Economics and Development Finance.
PRIZES/AWARDS/DISTINCTIONS:
Prof. (Mrs.) Mercy Ada Anyiwe has remained an award winning personality, attestation to this can be seen below as she was awarded the following:
• Mozie’s Best Student Award (for the Best Class 4 Student, Secondary School) 1971; ***The First Bank Prize (for the Best Student in Monetary Economics, UNIBEN) 1981; ***Social Sciences Council of Nigeria Small Grant Award (for Doctoral Degree) 1998; ***National University Commission (NUC) Research Award (for Research Project on “Operation Roll Back Malaria: Challenges and Cost-Effective Alternative Approach to Malaria Control”) 2003.
Other Awards: Best Teacher in the Department, Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Departmental Toppers based on Student’s Assessment of Lecturers, 2005/2006 Session. • Fellow Educational Administration, Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, (FCAI) 2011; ***Listed in WHO’s WHO in Ika Land by Ika First Achievers, 2020. ***True Patriot of Mbiri Kingdom, (TPM) 2012; ***Fellow, International Institute of Leadership and Governance- INILAG, (FIL) 2013; NES Leadership Achievement Award (NESɩa), NES-EDO, 2024. SOCIAL LIFE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.
Prof Mercy Ada Anyiwe is an astute Economist-Statistician/Development Consultant committed to economic development and empowerment of her community, country and the entire world.
In this regard she has served as a resource person to many organizations both local and foreign (such as: The United Nations Development Programme, UNDP; African Economic and Research Consortium (AERC) Nairobi, Kenya; Women Commissions in Nigeria, Royal Realm Consult, Television Stations etc).
She was the initiator and hostess of the television program Royal Watch (which had a focus on wealth Creation and women/youth Empowerment) on Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) Benin-City, from which many benefitted.
Currently, her efforts in community service are being expanded through her Non-Governmental Organization: Centre for Human Development and Educational Research, (CEHDEER).
As a way of gratitude to God for her own life experiences, Prof. Mercy Anyiwe is passionate about helping, encouraging and has sponsored many women and girls to acquire education irrespective of age. Her belief is that education is the right of every child, male or female alike.
As the President of Nigeria Association of Academics and Authors, (NAAA); and Chairman, Nigerian Economic Society, South-South Region (NES-SSR); Ex-Chairman, Nigerian Economic Society, Edo State (NES-EDO); Ex-2nd Vice-President, Nigerian Economic Society; she is in the vanguard of the projects – “KEEP THEM IN SCHOOL” and “LET THEM READ BOOKS”. RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION.
Prof. (Mrs.) Mercy Ada Anyiwe, is a member of Science of Spirituality Organization of Nigeria (SOS) and so, she is a Lacto-Vegetarian and a Practitioner of Scientific Meditation.
HOBBIES: Intellectual-Engagements; singing and dancing and she has to her credit three musical albums which made significant waves in the 1990s Nigerian music scene such as: “What You Sow You Reap”; “God is Merciful” and “Fight Corruption”.
