

******NWOKO Commends FG, Others On Restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency.

Senator Ned Nwoko, has Commended Federal Government, Judiciary, Nigerian Senate; all arms of government and critical stakeholders who contributed to the Successful restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency as he stated that development will depeen the practice of true democracy in the country.

Senator Nwoko made this remark in a chat with Shocknaija Media (News Online) today being Wednesday, March 12, 2025 as he reacted commended constituents on support and critical stakeholders on roles towards the actualization of this current political achievements as recorded.so far.

NWOKO used medium to appreciate all legislators who supported his motion, other critical stakeholders who played vital roles towards successful restoration of the Aniocha North II State Constituency in Delta, in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment in suit No. SC/129/2019. which was approved on Tuesday by Nigerian Senate.

- You could recall that yesterday being on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, this approval followed a motion during plenary on the Restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency, Delta in compliance with Supreme Court Judgment,” sponsored by Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta North). The upper chamber had resolved that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must comply with the resolution.
In the words of words of Senator Nwoko: ” I must tell that am very happy for this great political achievements recorded so far for my Constituents, Aniocha North, Delta North, Delta State and Nigeria in general. First and foremost we give all the glory to God. We also use this medium to thank President Tinubu. This is good for democracy. The entire Anioma people-Delta Northerners sends special greetings to Federal Government, Federal legislature, Judiciary; infact all arms of government -critical stakeholders who made it possible”.

“The Senate has done their job and has further directed that the restoration of the constituency take effect in the next State House of Assembly election, after the current term of the Delta State House of Assembly. This is in compliance with Section 115 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) as affirmed by Nigerian Senate”.

“I moved this motion recently given vivid explanation that in 2014, the people of Idumuje-Unor, Idumuje-Ugboko, Nkwu-Nzu, Ugboba, Idumuogo, Ugbodu, Ubulubu, Anioma, and Ogodo towns in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta initiated a legal action at the Federal High Court in Asaba.That my people sought the restoration of the Aniocha North II State Constituency”.

“Initially the Federal High Court dismissed the case, the Court of Appeal in Benin ruled in favour of the people on Nov. 22, 2017, ordering the restoration of the constituency and instructing INEC to conduct elections there.
INEC had filed for leave to appeal the Court of Appeal judgment at the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court, on Nov. 29, 2019, dismissed the application, affirming the judgment as “final, binding, and legally non-appealable.”
“In compliance with the Supreme Court ruling, INEC convened a meeting with stakeholders of the constituency on Nov. 19, 2020. The commission subsequently submitted a report to the National Assembly for consideration, in line with Section 115 of the 1999 Constitution.
We must also commend INEC for their roles; support and understanding on this great feat as attained. This is in line with Section 115 of the Constitution”,

“I must sincerely commend the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, entire Senate leadership, INEC and our colleagues in the House of Representatives for doing the needful. They had equally joined accordingly and adhered to supreme court rule. This time INEC will do the Needful as the issue is now resolved. This is a victory for democracy”.
