Professor Sir Bashiru Aremu, The First African UNESCO Laureate, has described Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun State as a Unique Institution Committed to academic excellence, innovations and research as he hailed Management, NUC, and other critical stakeholders on Participation in the just concluded Quality Assurance Process in the University.
Shocknaija Media (News Online) learnt this from the Pioneer Dean of Computing & Science, Minaret University, Ikirun in a Telephone conversation with our reporter today being Wednesday, October 8, 2025 as he reacted to the excellent Performance of MU, Ikirun in the just concluded NUC’s Quality Assurance Processes, highlighted the Uniqueness of Minaret University, Ikirun, a global institution Committed to academic excellence.
Prof Aremu had Commended the leadership of National Universities Commission (NUC) to had helped Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun State to establish and strengthen quality assurance processes at the newly founded Institution. UNESCO Laureate’s commendation highlights the importance of quality assurance in higher education for student confidence, accountability, and institutional reputation.
Speaking further, Prof As Aremu acknowledged the potentials of emerging technologies such as AI as makes case for future its usage or applications to enhance these processes. Aremu while making more robust proposals for Quality Assurance Processes in Higher Education, he commended the efforts of Professor Abdul Rahman Abdullah, the Vice-Chancellor of Minaret University.
While he expresses joy over the success of the recent As quality Assurance exercise in MIU, Ikirun, he also commended the vital roles played by other Very Important Persons (VIPs) included amongst others are: Amir Mumini of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, The Chancellor of Minaret University Ikirun, Alh Barrister Abdul Azeez Folorunso Alatooye, The Chairman, Minaret University’s Board of Governing Council, Alh Sumonu.
He also appreciated other Institution’s Management team such as: The Former President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Olu Lawal Registrar of Minaret University Ikirun Nigeria, Prof Muhammad Mujitaba Abdullah of the Faculty of Management Science., and the NUC under the leadership of Prof Adesina Sodiya and his team to help the university set up robust quality assurance systems.
The first African UNESCO Laureate then harped on the importance of Quality Assurance which he said the initiative underscores the critical role of quality assurance in higher education, which builds confidence among students and stakeholders and ensures accountability in the use of public funds.
In the words of UNESCO Laureate: “Minaret University is a unique institution aiming to blend both Islamic and Western educational models, drawing on a global pool off academics and researchers. The National Universities Commission (NUC) is the body responsible for accrediting Universities and their programs in Nigeria, ensuring they meet national standards”.
“Finally, I urge all stakeholders on the need to support Quality Assurance Initiatives: This is an actions or reflects a broader effort to improve higher education quality. And this highlights the commitment to strengthening educational standards through initiatives such regional collaboration and capacity-building”.
