As part of efforts towards providing lasting medical solutions to the sickness of Cleft Lip & Palate which is defined as openings, splits, separations in the the upper lip or palate or tissues of the face that fail to join properly during early development of an unborn baby in the womb, Central Hospital Sapele sets for free cleft lip and palate surgeries in this month of April 2025 according to its management.
The Media learnt this today being Wednesday, April 2, 2025 in a release by the Head of Central Hospital Sapele Cleft team, Dr Vivian Wareibi Omo-Aghoja made available to some group of Journalists in Sapele, Delta State as she enjoined parents to bring out their children with such birth defects to take advantage of the April Cleft week to access solutions to their children.
The program being sponsored by Smiletrain Organization, the largest NGO sponsoring Cleft Surgeries Worldwide, has said it will equally refund and support patients with transportation costs so as to make themselves available for the surgeries.
Cleft lip and Palate is a birth defect with no known causative factor but has been linked to many factors such as Inherited genes from parents, Smoking, drinking of alcohol, obesity, maternal Diabetics, use of herbal concosions, folic acid deficiency, use of some medications etc
